         Prompting is the needed support that tells the reader where to look
  in the text to find additional information to be successful with that word.

If the error does not make sense, guide the reader with a MEANING prompt.

If the error is not proper English, guide the reader with a STRUCTURE prompt.

What word sounds better  _____ or _____ ?

 

If the error does not match the
letters in the word, guide the reader with a PHONICS prompt.

Say to your reader...

Does the word you said look right?

Make the first sound of that word.

Is there a part in that word that you know? ("ing" in sing, "op" in hop and shop, etc...)

Do you know another word like that?  "If I know day then I know stay and way."
