Glad to be Mrs. P!

Welcome! My name is Lisa Powers. I am a first grade teacher in the picturesque town of Duvall, Washington. I am one of the lucky people in life who get an opportunity to "love what you do"!  I truly enjoy the magic of first grade as these young kiddos grow and mold themselves into incredible learners and thinkers.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
I graduated from Western Washington University in 2001 with a BA in Elementary (K-8) and Special Education (K-12). I completed two quarters of student teaching in Federal Way, Washington. After graduation, I happily accepted a first grade position in the same school where I student taught. I taught in Federal Way for three years before moving to the Riverview School District in 2004.

In 2005, I began my Master's program through the University of Washington in Bothell, Washington. In 2006, I decided to pursue my National Board certification. I officially graduated with a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction  and certified as a National Board Certified Teacher in 2007. I am certified as an "Early Childhood Generalist", which encompasses children from age 3 to 8.

INTERESTS:
I am a contented owner of two golden retrievers, Barkley and Bella. I spend most of my time playing and enjoying their friendly temperaments. I look forward to working in my yard and cultivating my garden. When I get extended periods of time, I love hiking with my husband and the dogs! To end a perfect day, I love to sit outside with a good book and a latte and read the late afternoon away. In fact, I think I will go do that right now...

My dogs, Barkley and Bella!
Aren't they funny?!

Hiking Flattop Mountain in Anchorage, Alaska!
Yes, I climbed up that mountain behind me!
