Can I Have a Pet Cheetah, Please?

A Web Quest for Third Graders

Introduction   Task   Process   Evaluation

Introduction:

Suppose the local zoo was looking for a family to adopt a new cheetah cub.  Do you think the cub would be a good new member of your household? What would make a good pet?  How would you care for it?  What does it need to be healthy and happy in your home?  Learn about cheetahs and then convince your parents that a cheetah would or would not be a good pet for you.

Task:

Your job is to learn all about cheetahs and what they need to be happy and healthy.

Think about a dog or cat or fish as a pet.  What are their basic needs: food, somewhere to live(like their home in nature), family life.  Think about their physical needs- size, exercise.

You will need to print the notetaking form to record what you found out by reading information about cheetahs from these resources. Remember: You only need information that would help with your decision about a cheetah being a pet.

When you have a lot of information, decide whether a cheetah would make a good pet in your home.  Have good reasons for your decision based on facts you learned.

Read about "How to write a friendly letter" and then write one convincing your mom or dad that a cheetah either would or would not be a good pet for you.
