Hello!  My name is Darcy Becker, and I have been the principal of Cherry Valley Elementary School in Duvall, Washington, since July 2000.  Prior to that, I worked in private education.  I taught a variety of grades K-12, mostly in multi-age classrooms, and served as the principal of Spokane Christian Academy for 5 years.

Educational Background

Throughout my childhood, I attending school in the Akron-Fairgrove School District in Michigan.  After high school, I attended Michigan State University for 2 years majoring in elementary education.  When I married my husband, we moved to Minot, North Dakota, and were stationed at Minot Air Force Base for 4 years where I finished my bachelor's degree at Minot State College with a major in elementary education.  We had a permanent change of station (or PCS in military-speak) and moved to Fairchild Air Force Base outside of Spokane.  We finished our 20 year career there.  During our 16 years in Spokane, I obtained my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an Early Childhood Emphasis from Lesley College and finished a certificate program in Educational Leadership through Eastern Washington University.  After completing a year-long principal internship at Liberty Lake Elementary in the Central Valley School District, I was hired as the principal of Cherry Valley Elementary.

Family

I have been married to my husband, Keith, since 1981.  Keith works for Fred Meyer and attends Everett Community College where he is enrolled in the Aviation Maintenance program.  We have 2 daughters, Diana and Jessica.

Diana is married and has a little boy - our first grandchild -  Braden.  Diana is a graduate of Skyline High School in the Issaquah School District.  She is a personal trainer at Gold's Gym.  Her husband, Travis, coaches cheerleading.

Jessica graduated from Cedarcrest High School in the Riverview School District.  She currently works for Starbucks.  Jessica is engaged to Sean, who works for the City of Duvall.  We are excitedly planning a summer wedding.

Family is very important to us, and even though we're all very busy, we spend as much time as we can together barbequing, watching movies or playing games.  Below is a photo of my 2 favorite guys and my toy poodle, Ruby.

Interests

We enjoy the outdoors very much.  When we're not tending our garden or working in our yard, we like to hike or snowshoe in the Cascades.  When I'm not reading professional materials, I read kids books for our annual High Tea and participate in the Read-a-thon.  For fun, I enjoy mystery novels by James Patterson and Mary Higgins Clark.  Music, movies, cooking and sewing are also favorite activities I like to do as often as I can.  I love Seattle sports - Mariners, Seahawks, Sonics, Storm, and Thunderbirds - and attend when I can with family and friends.
